About Tsavorite Garnets
Tsavorite garnet is a green to emerald colored variety of grossular garnet. Although garnets are very common as gemstone, green garnets can be really expensive due to their extreme rarity. The intense green of tsavorite is owed to traces of vanadium or chromium. In some cases, these look even better than the finest emeralds in terms of their color. Since tsavorites contain fewer inclusions, when compared to emeralds, they offer a suitable replacement for jewellery which is unique and more durable.
Originally discovered from Tsavo mines in Kenya, they are today also found in Namibia and other similar origins. Tsavorites have a very high R.I. and dispersion which makes them sparkle when they are cut as faceted stones. Tsavorites over 5-Carat in size are extremely rare, and can command a very high price.
