About Fancy Color Diamonds
Fancy Colored Diamonds, as described by Gemological Institute of America, are those whose hue goes beyond the range of D-Z-Color-Grading-Scale when viewed faceup. The specimens can occur in various colors like Blue, Green, Brown, Yellow, Pink, Red as well as any combination thereof. The most common colors among fancy colored Diamonds are the Fancy Yellows and Browns. Red and Blue stones are considered the rarest and most desirable. Some diamonds also come with a purple tinge and are commonly called “Mauve diamonds”. Blue Diamonds are interesting not only because of their fantastic color, but also due to the presence of Boron, which make these type of DIamonds good conductors of electricity. Black diamond was not as popular until the late 1990s, before jewellery designers started using them as contrasting stones with their colorless counterparts.
Another category of fancy colored diamonds which is very valuable is the Chameleon Diamonds. These type of Diamonds have a special characteristic which makes them change color when they are kept in dark for an elongated period, or exposed to change in temperature. The color reverses back to their original state, when the conditions are reversed. The Chopard Chameleon Diamond is one of the largest documented Chameleon Diamond on record weighing a whopping 31.32 Carats.
